Despite an online gambling news site reporting that American Express are once again processing United States online casino transactions, the rumor is simply not true. It appears that the site was fed some misinformation, and an American Express representative informed them was incorrect.
The AmEx representative, Christine Elliot, the American Express Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications, said "It is a long-standing policy that American Express cards cannot be accepted for gambling – either online or offline, and the Rome Casino is no exception. Any merchant found to be in violation of this policy is terminated immediately from card acceptance."Ms Elliot explained further that American Express has now sent a legal notification to the online casino mentioned in the article, letting them know that they have not been authorized by the American Express Card company to accept payments from this type of credit card, and that the online casino has no authorization to use the American Express marks on their website. At this time, the American Express logo is still displayed on the website.US players may find that there is much confusion regarding payment methods in online casinos that accept US players, since many of the online casinos show credit card logos, but in fact payments are almost always blocked by the credit card companies, who are not allowed to process these transactions according to United States law.Although the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) is unclear in many ways, it is quite clear that financial institutions are not allowed to process online casino transactions. |
