There are many terms that are specific for playing craps and until players are familiar with them, the casino games of craps may seem more daunting than necessary. These terms refer to the types of bets that can be placed, the numbers that can be rolled and the rules for playing online craps and land-based. When playing online casino craps you will not be able to listen to terms used by other players so a craps glossary will be particularly useful.
- Any Craps - A bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3 or 12.
- Any Seven - A bet that the next roll will be a 7.
- Backline - Another name for the don't pass line.
- Bar 6-6 - This refers to a situation where the bet neither wins nor loses, but is a standoff. In this scenario, the bet may be withdrawn or carried over for the upcoming roll.
- Big 6 - A bet that a 6 will be rolled before a 7.
- Big 8 - A bet that an 8 will be rolled before a 7.
- Big Red - A bet that a 7 will be the next roll.
- Box Cars - A bet on the number 12.
- Box Man - A casino employee who is there to supervise the craps table.
- Box Numbers - This refers to the numbers that are marked inside the boxes on the craps table layout. They are the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.
- C & E - A bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3 or 11.
- Come Out Roll - The first roll in a round when the shooter sets the point.
- Don't Come Bet - A bet that the dice won't pass after the come out roll.
- Don't Pass - A dice roll of 7 instead of the point or a throw or craps.
- E.T. - A bet that an 11 or 12 will be rolled.
- Field Bet - A bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12.
- Free Odds Bet - A bet made in conjunction with another bet. A bet that pays out true odds, i.e. it has no house edge.
- Front Line - Another name for the pass line.
- Hardway - Both dice showing the same number, totaling 4, 6, 8 or 10.
- Hi/Lo - A bet on the 12 and the 2.
- Hop - A bet on a specific number for the next roll.
- Horn Numbers - The numbers 2, 3, 11 and 12.
- Inside Bet - A bet that the next roll will be 5, 6, 8 or 9.
- Lay Bet - A bet that a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will not be rolled before a 7.
- Line Bet - A bet placed on the pass line or the don't pass line.
- Natural - A throw of 7 or 11 on the come out roll.
- Outside Numbers - Refers to the numbers 4, 5, 9 and 10.
- Pass - A dice throw of a natural or of the point.
- Place Bet - A bet that a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will be rolled before a 7.
- Point - Could be the number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The number is established by the come out roll.
- Proposition bets - Bets located in the center of the table that are placed through the dealers.
- Right Bettor - Refers to a player who bets that the dice will pass.
- Shooter - Name given to the player who throws the dice.
- Stickman - The casino employee who uses a long curved stick to collect the dice.
- Vigorish - Refers to the commission taken by the casino. Sometimes used to refer to the house edge.
