- Action – The amount of money put into the game by a player
- Advantage – The gain or loss of a player expressed as a percentage of his wager
- Anchor or anchorman – The person placed on the last seat of the table, seated to theextreme right of the dealer
- Bankroll – The total amount of money with the player that is to be gambled
- Bar – Banning a player from playing in a land casino or at an online casino
- Basic strategy – An optimum game strategy that can add to one’s advantage
- Bet spread – The difference between a player’s minimum and maximum bets
- Blackjack – Two cards consisting of an ace and a card with value ten, totaling 21
- Burn card – One or more cards that are discarded and placed on the bottom of the deck
- Bust – Holding a losing card which exceeds 21 points
- Cage - The location of the cashier in a casino
- Double down – After possessing the first two cards, a player can double his bet byrevealing the first two cards but taking one more card
- Draw – Taking an additional card from the dealer over and above the initial two cards
- Early surrender – Surrender of the initial two cards by a player before the dealer checksfor a Blackjack wherein he loses half the wager amount
- Edge – The advantage the house or the player has over the other
- Face cards – Jack, Queen and King which are the ten point cards
- First base – The player seated left of the dealer to whom the cards are dealt first
- Hard total- Hand without Ace or with an Ace counted as 1
- Hole card – A dealer’s face down card
- Insurance – Side bet made when the dealer has a 21. Wagering half the amount of theoriginal bet can result in gaining the insurance amount and losing the original wager if thedealer has a Blackjack. If he does not have a Blackjack, one loses the insured amount
- Pat hand – A hand which is a 17 that is not busted
- Shoe – A wooden device that holds the multiple decks of cards that is to be dealt or dispersed
- Soft hand – A hand containing an Ace
- Stand – Refrain from taking further cards
- Third baseman – The player seated at the far right of the dealer who will be the last toreceive the cards
- Twenty-one – Other name for Blackjack
- Up-card – The card placed face up by the dealer
